The Gazebo Players of Medfield will be back again this summer for their 9th annual Shakespeare in the Park production. This year’s show is Love’s Labour’s Lost, a romantic farce set in the Navarre region of Spain. As soon as the King of Navarre and his courtiers make a very public vow promising to have no contact with women for three years to devote themselves to their studies, the Princess of France and her ladies in-waiting arrive on a state visit. The men are smitten, and immediately start looking for increasingly comical ways to get out of their vows without losing face. Norfolk resident Marielle Boudreau is making her Gazebo Players and Shakespeare debut, playing the role of Holofernes in the production. Holofernes is the school mistress, responsible for the education of the King and his courtiers during the three years of their vows. Marielle, still a high school student herself, nevertheless finds similarities between herself and her character. Marielle says, “I think that Holofernes is sort of a caricature of my personality, which makes her interesting--she uses overly elevated syntax and long, fancy words, as well as sometimes switching to Latin. I can’t say I’ve never done any of those things, so it’s certainly funny to see myself laughing at a different version of my own oddities.” Performances of Love’s Labour’s Lost start at 5 p.m. and are free to the public. Performances at the Gazebo in Medfield will be given on July 31 and August 1. Performances at Walpole Footlighters in Walpole (5 Scout Road) will be given on August 7 and 8. In case of rain, the Medfield performances will be at the Montrose School (29 North Street). Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic. Light refreshments will be available.
