Freaky Flash Norfolk Storm Leaves Damage

A flash storm last weekend ripped through Norfolk, downing trees and dumping water in a brief span. A falling tree crushed a car in a driveway on Seekonk Street.

The Norfolk Fire Department got 11 emergency calls in a 90-minute period a little before 3 p.m. Sunday, June 20. “Eleven calls in 90 minutes is quite a bit of business,” said Selectman Rob Garrity during the board meeting this past Monday night. “And it was a deluge,” said Selectman Jim Lehan, who lost two trees in his yard on Frederickson Road.

“I think I got 3 inches of water in the pool in that short period of time,” said Selectman Jim Tomaszewski, who lives on Berkshire Street.

But the storm wasn’t exactly widespread: Town Administrator Jack Hathaway told selectmen this past Monday night that he took a ride to not-so-far-away Dover around the time of the storm in Norfolk and didn’t experience any of its fury.
