No Tax Hike; Services Cuts To Start Taking Effect This Week

Norfolk voters crushed a proposed $1,067,157 Proposition 2 ½ override this week, and now town residents can expect services cuts starting this week. On Sunday, June 20, shortly before 3 p.m., Norfolk was struck by a fast-moving storm which left homes damaged and felled trees blocking roads. Norfolk Fire Department Captain Peter Petruchik, the shift officer,noted that the storm virtually formed over the com­munity as the firefighters in the station watched skies go from clear to black with driving rain and lightning. At their meeting on June 23, the Board of Library Trustees decreased library hours to in order to stay within the constraints of the budget reduction voted at town meeting this past May. Anne Macrum Elder, 91, of Salem, Virginia died on Sunday, June 20, 2010. Anne was born January 24, 1919 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Towson High School in Maryland in 1937 and studied piano at Peabody Institute in Baltimore. She earned a bachelor of sci­ence in education from Towson State Teachers College in 1943 and taught school in Harford County, Maryland. More...
