Joseph Cafferky, 74
Joseph Stephen Cafferky, 74, Wrentham died on Sunday, June 6 at Harrington House in Walpole with his loving wife at his side. He was the devoted husband for the past 52 years to Marion (Cottrell) Cafferky, whom he married on November 17, 1957. He was born December 17, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of the late Patrick and Martha (McCaffrey) Cafferky. He graduated from Walpole High School in 1956.
A member of the Local 12 Plumbers Union, he owned and operated Joe Cafferky Plumbing in Wrentham for many years. He was also active in local affairs, serving the town as a member of the planning board and the zoning board of appeals. At one time, he was an active member of the Original Congregational Church of Wrentham, serving on the board of deacons. He was a member of Bristol Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in North Attleborough. A former scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America Troop 131 in Wrentham, he enjoyed helping shape young men’s lives as a leader for almost 10 years.
An avid gardener, he was a consulting rosarian for the American Rose Society. He was also a member of the New England Rose Society, the Rhode Island Rose Society, the Lower Cape Rose Society, and the New Hampshire Rose Society. In 2000, he planted an ornamental rose garden in front of the wall at Sweatt Park on Bank Street in Wrentham Centre, and in commemoration of the Year of the Rose, which is our national flower. In addition to his loving wife Joe leaves much-loved children: Joseph S. Cafferky Jr. of Wrentham; Susan M. Biagetti of Lincoln, Rhode Island; and Thomas E. Cafferky of Newfield, Maine. He was the dear brother of James M. Cafferky of Warwick, Rhode Island; Edward Cafferky of Coventry, Rhode Island; Helen Brule of Norfolk; Martha LaChance of LaVernia, Texas; Barbara Drake of Jamestown, Rhode Island; Joanne Cafferky of Cranston, Rhode Island; and the late John Cafferky. He was the devoted grandfather of Janelle L. Cafferky, Alex and Roxanne Biagetti, Michelle Cafferky, and Brian and William Keller. Funeral arrangements were handled by R.J. Ross Funeral Home in Wrentham.
A funeral service was held at Thursday, June 10 in the sanctuary of the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham. Burial was at Wrentham Centre Cemetery.
