Charles H. Stone, 83

Charles H. Stone of Poland, Maine, formerly of Norfolk, died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. He was 83.

He was a longtime resident of Norfolk. He was born in Middleborough, the son of the late Walter and Irene (Keith) Stone. He was educated in Norfolk, and he graduated from Boston Trade School. Following high school, he entered the United States Army Air Force, where he served as an air­craft mechanic during World War II.

He retired in 1987, after over 35 years with Nor­ton Company, where he worked as the plant man­ager.

In his retirement, he was an avid golfer. He was a former coach of Norfolk Little League, and a Scoutmaster with Norfolk Troop 80. He had delivered meals on wheels for the last six years in Wrentham. He was a former member of Fairlawn Country Club in Auburn, Maine, the Fairlawn Men’s Golf As­sociation, Sharon Country Club, the Norfolk Men’s Golf League, the Norfolk Advisory Committee, and Norfolk American Legion Post 335.

He was a jack of all trades who enjoyed his fam­ily and his lake house in Maine.

He and his wife wintered in Florida and Arizo­na, before her death in 2004. He was the husband of the late Frances L. (Dolan) Stone.

He was the devoted father of Charles H. Stone Jr. of Wrentham, Norfolk’s police chief; Cheryl A. Blair, and her husband Charles “Wells,” of Rose­mount, Minnesota; and Patricia L. Watson, and her husband Richard, of Norfolk. He was the grandfather of Lisa, Jason, and Erin Blair, Lauren A. Stone, Charles H. Stone III, Brit­tany Cummings Stone, and Michael Cummings Stone. He was the brother of Barbara Evans of Norfolk, and the late Walter F. and Robert L. Stone. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A wake is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 14 at R. J. Ross Funeral Home at 135 South Street (Route 1A) in Wrentham.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tues­day, June 15 at the Federated Church of Norfolk at 1 Union Street in Norfolk Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Cen­tral
