Norfolk Fire Department Issues Advisory on LPG Tanks
(Above): Norfolk Fire Lt./Paramedic Mike Findlen, kneeling, with Firefighter/Paramedic Mark Amiot and Firefighter/EMT Stephen Hamlin inspect a gas grille LPG tank which was venting gas due to high temperatures on the late afternoon of Wednesday, May 26 on Fleetwood Road. Firefighters needed to vent the tank to relieve internal pressure, which allowed the relief valve to close and stopped the leaking gas. Fire Chief Cole Bushnell reminds all residents that LPG tanks need to be stored outside, never in a garage, basement or enclosed porch. Also, Chief Bushnell noted that if a resident smells a gas odor, he or she should call the Fire Department for an investigation. This was one of six emergencies handled by the Fire Department on May 26. Others included: EMS calls for ALS at MCI-Norfolk and Frederickson Road; Rescue 1 responding mutual aid to Walpole for a motor vehicle accident with injury;, an odor of fuel oil at a Barnstable Road home; and a fire alarm on Pond Street.
