An Events Calendar for Norfolk
Editor’s Note: Norfolk Public Library is at 139 Main Street in Norfolk Center. All places and addresses below that do not specify a municipal­ity are in the town of Norfolk.

Friday, April 23 6 to 9 p.m. The Friends of the Norfolk Public Library plans to hold its annual book sale during the fourth weekend in April. The book sale takes place at the Norfolk Department of Public Works garage at 33 Medway Branch Road. Only members of the Friends group are allowed into the Friday night book sale, and then the book sale open to the general public is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24. Memberships are $15 and are available starting at 5 p.m. Friday, April 23, an hour before the sneak-peak sale is scheduled to start. Saturday, April 24 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 30,000 fiction and non-fiction books are expected to be on sale at the annual Book and Bake Sale of The Friends of the Norfolk Public Library at the Norfolk Department of Public Works garage at 33 Medway Branch Road. Most books are to be priced at between 50 cents and $2.

noon The annual parade Opening Day parade of Norfolk Baseball is sched­uled to begin at H. Olive Day School at 232 Main Street and make its way to the Little League field a little west of Freeman-Centennial School on Boardman Street. Refreshments are to be served.

Wednesday, April 28

7 p.m. The Norfolk Historical Commission plans to present as part of its con­tinuing History on the Hill series a talk titled “Norfolk Women Who Made a Difference.” The subjects are Bertha Fales, author of a history of Norfolk; Agnes Bristol, benefactor of Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctu­ary

off North Street; Laura McClure, a town librarian for 30 years; and H. Olive Day, a Norfolk elementary school educator for 40 years. If the weather it all right, the talk is to take place at the gazebo on Town Hill near Norfolk Public Library. If the weather is inclement, the talk is ex­pected to be moved to Room 214 at Norfolk Town Hall at One Liberty Lane, across the street.

Saturday, May 1 1 to 2 p.m. The Norfolk Grange is planning to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Earth Day by sponsoring an event called Norfolk Clean & Green Campaign. Residents, businesses, and especially youth organi­zations are encouraged to participate in cleaning up rubbish and lit­ter along roadways and public places in Norfolk. The Grange plans to hold a celebration for those who participate, including light refresh­ments, “green” giveaways, photos, and information about “green” ac­tivities. Bags containing trash and redeemable bottles and cans are to be brought to Old Town Hall at 100 Main Street between 1 and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1. Money from redeemable bottles and cans is to go to benefit King Philip Regional High School. Registration is required to participate in the event. The deadline to register is Wednesday, April 28. Tuesday, May 4 7 p.m. The annual Candidates’ Night forum is scheduled to take place in the auditorium of King Philip Middle School at 18 King Street in Norfolk. The event allows candidates for townwide office a chance to make statements and answer questions from voters. The Norfolk Community League sponsors the event. Tuesday, May 11 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Norfolk’s annual town election is scheduled to take place at H. Olive Day School at 232 Main Street in Norfolk. The date is a week later than usual. The general election for the vacant Norfolk, Bristol, and Mid­dlesex state Senate district is also scheduled to take place at the same time.

Tuesday, May 18 Norfolk Annual Town Meeting is scheduled to take begin at King Philip Middle School at 18 King Street in Norfolk. The date is a week later than usual.
