Albert Babel, 91
Albert Babel of Wrentham, where he has lived since 1962, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Maples Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham. He was 91.
He was born in Norwood, the son of the late Paul and Mary (Glebus) Babel.
He attended Norwood High School. He also attended U. S. Maritime schools in St. Petersburg, Florida, and New London, Connecticut. As a Merchant Marine seaman and engineer, he sailed all through World War II, serving on the liberty ship Josiah Parker. He worked as a stationary engineer. He also worked as a power plant engineer at Norfolk State Prison.
He retired in 1978. He was the husband of 62 years to the late Shirley M. (Finch) Babel.
He was the father of Paul Babel, and his wife Diana, of Memphis, Tennessee; Suzanne Crane, and her husband William, of Norfolk; Albert D. Babel, and his wife Susan Wright, of Huntington
Beach, California; and Elizabeth Jones, and her husband Gary, of Londonderry, New Hampshire.
He was the brother of the late Irene Daly, Aldona Virginski, and Paul “Sonny” Babel. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, and a niece, Mary Ann Daly. He also leaves dear friends, Laurel Sweney, and Lynn Allen. A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 13 at R. J. Ross Funeral Home in Wrentham.
Burial was at Centre Cemetery in Wrentham.
