Rescue Workers Help Cat Who Got Stuck

Photo Courtesy of the Norfolk Fire Department
At roughly 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, a Norfolk resident called to say there was a cat stuck and suspended by its head in a storm drain on Strawberry Lane in Norfolk. Animal Control OfficerHilary Cohen arrived on scene and called for the fire department to come and assist with the removal of the storm grate. Firefighter/Paramedics Jamie Masterson and Dave Russo and Fire Chief Coleman Bushnell assisted with the rescue efforts. An attempt was made on scene to release the cat from the grate through manipulation of the skull, but it was unsuccessful. The animal control officer and firefighters transported the cat and the grate to Acorn Animal Hospital in Franklin, where the cat was sedated and the grate was successfully removed. The cat is a young, short-haired grey, spayed female and she is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries at the hospital. She is expected to recover well. The Norfolk Animal Control Department is hoping to find her owner. For more information contact the Animal Control Officer at (508) 440-2816 or Norfolkk9@aol.com.
