Norfolk Firefighters Extinguish Permit Fire Off Of Boardman Street

(Above and Right): Nor­folk Firefighter/Paramedic Jamie Masterson operates the pump on Squad 1 as Engine 2 supplies water at a permit firewhich extended into the woods of a Boardman Street residence on Thursday, April 15. This in­cident required a full recall of off-duty career and call staff. Six members responded staff­ing the fire apparatus on scene. This was one nine emergencies handled by the Fire Depart­ment during the day. The calls for Thursday included: 11am - Medical ALS call at MCI-Norfolk, Squad 1 and Rescue 2 11:15am - Smoke detec­tor activation due to cooking on Meetinghouse Lane, Engine 2 and Chief Bushnell responded

11:20am - Boardman Street brush firewith Squad 1, Engine 2, Tank 1 and Chief Bushnell 12:45pm - Dedham and Pine Streets, motor vehicle accident, no injuries. Squad 1 handled a fuel spill, Rescue 2 was re­turned enroute 2:30pm - Medical ALS call on Standhope Drive which required all on-duty staff for medical transport by Rescue 2 to Caritas/Norwood Hospital. 6pm - Mutual Aid Medical to Millis for ALS trans­port

(Below): A Franklin engine company and Fire Captain re­sponded with Norfolk Fire Chief Coleman Bushnell on Fri­day, April 9 to Old Populatic for a reported dishwasher smoking. to Milford Hospital, Rescue 1 responded 7pm - Lawn mower fireon Bretts Farm Road with En­gine 2, Squad 4 and Chief Bush­nell responding 7:15pm - All units from the Bretts Farm Road incident assisted Police in a search of the former Buckley/Mann buildings for a reported missing youth 7:20pm - Noon Hill Ave­nue Medical, Rescue 1 responded and transported patient to Cari­tas/ Norwood Hospital. Engine 2 also responded. On-duty staff were committed to a smoke investigation on Dedham Street. The photo has the Franklin staff preparing to leave the scene after checking the home with a thermal imag­ing camera to ensure the firewas out. Automatic mutual aid, which firefighterscall “Line Box Coverage,” is being used more and more by firedepartments strapped for personnel.
