Races For Selectman, Town Moderator, Nothing Else

Selectman and town moderator have drawn contested races in Norfolk’s annual town election in May, but some officesso far have no takers. Former selectman Jonathan Smith and current Advisory Board member Carolyn Van Tine have qualified for the ballot to run for town moderator to replace Dan Winslow, who is running for state representative. No one is running for the one available five-year term on the town’s Housing Authority. One candidate, Benjamin McCarty, is running for a three-year term on the town’s Recreation Commission, but no one is running for the second available three-year term. A write-in candidate could win either of the available seats. The Norfolk School Committee, which oversees the town’s elementary schools, appears likely to welcome Shawn Dooley and Thomas Doyle to the committee in May. Dooley is the only candidate for the one available three-year term, and Doyle is the only candidate for the one available one-year term. They look set to replace Marie Zullo and current committee chairman Beth Gilbert.

Among other uncontested races, the town’s Planning Board appears ready to get one new member: current Board of Health chairman Jeff Palumbo and current chairman David Roche are the only candidates is running for the two available three-year terms on the Planning Board.

For Board of Health, only Thomas Burke is running for the one available three-year term. Burke is currently a member of the Board of Health, so he and Palumbo are essentially switching seats.

For library trustees, incumbent Kenneth Nelson is running unopposed. For Board of Assessors, current member Kathy Mullineaux is running for election to the one available three-year term.
