Stony Brook Announces April Programs
Spring is in the air! Join us for these programs:
Special Places in Southeast Mass.:
Sunday, April 4th
7:00am-5:00pm. We will head down to the Cumberland Farm fields, a well-known hot spot for early spring activity. Expect to see hawks, owls, snow buntings, Lapland longspurs and several species of sparrows. From there, we will go down to Lakeville to search for resident eagles and ducks, and then on to Scusset Beach to look for sea ducks and loons.
Fee: $55member/$68nonmember per person
Preschool Prowl:
Tuesdays, April 6th – 23rd
10:00-11:00am. Early spring is an exciting time at Stony Brook. The wetlands are bursting with new life. Join a Stony Brook naturalist on an outdoor adventure with your preschooler. Each day will have a different
nature focus and will include a story, craft or activity, and a walk on the trails. Ages 3.5 to 5.
Fee: $35m/$40nm per child per 4 week session.
Tales of the Wild:
Tuesdays, April 6th – 23rd
12:30-2:00pm. “Tales” represents a natural progression from our preschool program, since it is designed to offer
young people the opportunity to discover Stony Brook on their own. This program will encourage a preschooler’s curiosity about the natural world and will introduce the observation skills that can turn every walk into a fulfillingand educational experience. Parents may remain on the Sanctuary grounds, but are not participants.
Fee: $45m/$50nm per child per 4 week session
Big Night Extravaganza: Friday, April 9th, from 6:30-8:30pm & Saturday, April 10th, from 6:00-8:30pm. Join us for our annual celebration of spring. There will be candle-lit trails, costumed skits, music, games and snacks. Being outside at night is exciting enough, but add to that the sounds of creatures stirring and Nature returning to life… The whole family will have a great time! Guided tours leave every 15 minutes. Call to schedule a time.

Scout Night Hike: Friday, April 16th
6:30pm-8:30pm.
This is a special Stony Brook night hike designed just for scouts. We’ll play games as our eyes adjust to the dark, then head out on the trails to see “whooo” we might find.
Fee: $6 per person
Turtle Trekkers:
Saturday, April 17th
10:30-12:00pm. Start your weekend off right with a fun and knowledgeable Stony Brook teacher on the trails learning about nature. There will be crafts, activities and lots of laughter. So come and join the fun. This month’s theme: Taking Care of the Earth! Ages 2.9 to 6 with a parent.
Fee: $10m/$12nm per child
April Vacation Week:
Tuesday-Friday, April 20th – 23rd
9:00am-3:30pm. Vacations don’t have to be far from home to be fun. Sign up for our always popular vacation week programs: one day or all four. (Half-day sessions
available for preschoolers on Tuesday and Thursday).

Ontario Spring Fling:
Thursday - Sunday, April 22nd – 25th.
A great and often overlooked area for observing wildlife in the Northeast during mid-spring is the south shore of Lake Ontario. This area includes
many wildlife refuges, including several with the NY designation of Important Bird Areas. Call for a list of target bird species, itinerary and price. This is a road trip you won’t want to miss!
