William C. Kneer
William C. Kneer, 84, of Medfield, died suddenly on Monday morning, March 15, 2010 at Caritas Norwood Hospital. Born in New York, N.Y., on December 21, 1925, he was the only child of the late William A. and Helen (Hensler) Kneer. Bill was a graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson, N.J., and then served with the Navy Air Corps during World War II. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at New York University after the war. Married in 1948, he and his wife have made their home in Medfieldsince 1959.
Bill was employed throughout his career as an engineering contract salesman. He held sales positions with various firms in Maryland, Connecticut, and ultimately, Massachusetts. An enthusiastic pilot since learning to fly in the Navy, Bill and his wife enjoyed going for day trips in their Cessna until recently. He was an avid skier and for many years headed the ski patrol at Blue Hills. An outdoorsman, he was a regular
jogger, hiker and canoeist. He also volunteered along the route of the Boston Marathon and was a past MedfieldLittle League coach.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Jackson) Kneer; a son, Richard W. Kneer of Norwood; three daughters, Deirdre K. “Dee” Mead of Norfolk, Diane M. Gates and husband Paul of Boone, N.C., and Deborah
Drisko of Sharon; and six grandchildren, Douglas W. Mead, Daniel D. Mead, Dustin A. Mead, Jennifer H. Drisko, John R. Drisko, and Tyler A. Drisko. Funeral from the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, Medfield. Donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
