Barbara Mae Leavens Latimer, 86
Barbara Mae Leavens Latimer died peacefully in her home in Centerville on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, surrounded by her four devoted daughters. She was 86.
She was born August 27, 1923 in West Hyannisport.
She graduated from Barnstable High School in 1940. She was an avid gardener and loved the ocean. She spent many of her younger years boating with her parents. Her greatest loves were God and her family.
Barbara was a full-time homemaker whose family and extended family meant the world to her. She was a lifelong Cape Codder and was a charter member of the Cape Cod Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Osterville. Barbara’s entire life centered on serving others. Whether it was raising her four daughters or participating in church or community activities, Barbara was a visible presence with her quiet, sweet spirit. To know her was truly to love her.
Her husband, Dr. Ed Latimer, preceded her in death in 1988. She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Bill and Melanie Brace of Norfolk; Terry and Toni Copsey of North Conway, New Hampshire; Kevin and Sherrie Wall of East Calais, Vermont; and Charlie and Lori Case of Centerville.
She also leaves 10 grandchildren: Corey Grodack, Rick Brace, Shawn Brace, Alison Edwards, Devin Copsey, Shannon Copsey, Jonathan Wall, David Wall, Kelly Conrad, and Rad Case.
She leaves three great-grandchildren: Calleigh and Aubree Grodack and Camden Brace.
A wake is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 13 at Doane, Beal and Ames at 160 West Main Street in Hyannis. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, March 14 at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 2736 Falmouth Road (Route 28) in Osterville. Burial is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Dighton.
