Gustaf E. Pearson, 94
Gustaf E. Pearson, 94, a lifelong resident of Norfolk, died at home on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.
Born at 108 North Street in Norfolk, he was the fifth of six children of Martin and Florence Pearson, who came to Norfolk from Simrishamn, Sweden in 1900.
Gustaf graduated from Walpole High School and studied to be an electrician at Wentworth College in Boston.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Occupied Japan in the Navy CBs as an electrician. He married Elinor M. Hallett of Walpole and built a house on family land at 54 North Street, living there for 57 years.
He served as an electrical instructor at Massachusetts Correctional Institution–Norfolk, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the Norfolk Planning Board for many years.
Gustaf was a longtime member of the Murray Unitarian Universalist Church in Attleboro. He was a lover of nature, a gardener, a lifelong bird-watcher, and a member of the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
He is survived by his children, Martin of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and Karen of Norfolk; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, February 27 at Murray Unitarian Universalist Church at 505 North Main Street in Attleboro.
