Gustaf E. Pearson, 94

Gustaf E. Pearson, 94, a life­long resident of Norfolk, died at home on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

Born at 108 North Street in Norfolk, he was the fifth of six children of Martin and Florence Pearson, who came to Norfolk from Simrishamn, Sweden in 1900.

Gustaf graduated from Wal­pole High School and studied to be an electrician at Wentworth College in Boston.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Occupied Ja­pan in the Navy CBs as an elec­trician. He married Elinor M. Hallett of Walpole and built a house on family land at 54 North Street, living there for 57 years.

He served as an electrical in­structor at Massachusetts Cor­rectional Institution–Norfolk, retiring in 1970.

He was a member of the Norfolk Planning Board for many years.

Gustaf was a longtime mem­ber of the Murray Unitarian Uni­versalist Church in Attleboro. He was a lover of nature, a gardener, a lifelong bird-watch­er, and a member of the Massa­chusetts Audubon Society.

He is survived by his chil­dren, Martin of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and Karen of Norfolk; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is sched­uled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Febru­ary 27 at Murray Unitarian Uni­versalist Church at 505 North Main Street in Attleboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Murray Unitarian Universalist Church Memorial Fund.
