Plan To Allow Condos Near Old Town Hall Some town officials are interested in encouraging a townhouse-style residential development at the eastern end of the town center business district, in the area of Old Town Hall. Selectman Rob Garrity said this week that the town’s Zoning Bylaw Study Committee is considering a proposal that would allow increased density in that area, meaning that something like Norfolk Town Center Condominiums could be built there. Town officials hoping to spur economic development in Norfolk Center think the area needs more residential development in that area to provide customers for the stores they hope will open. A residential condominium complex on the northern side of Main Street in the area of Old Town Hall might help, Garrity said during the selectmen’s meeting this past Monday night. “That would give you the doors that feed the commercial development,” Garrity said. The proposal would require site plan review by the town’s Planning Board, as opposed to allowing such a development by right. “So if that passes, that would give us the opportunity to develop that down there in a more economical way, for the builder especially,” Lehan said. Town Meeting would have to approve any zoning changes. |
