Contributed to The Norfolk Boomerang
The King Philip Middle School Drama Club will present the Broadway Junior Production “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior” on Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6, at the school, located at 18 King Street in Norfolk.
Show time both nights is 7 p.m.
Based on the popular television show, “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior” is a hip and fun educational musical that teaches students and audiences of all ages that learning can be fun. Tammy, a schoolteacher nervous about her first day of teaching, tries to relax by watching TV. Suddenly, the Schoolhouse Rock bunch appear from her TV and proceed to show her how to win her students over with imagination and music. The beloved “Schoolhouse Rock” songs include “A Noun is a Person, Place, or Thing,” “I’m Just a Bill” and “Conjunction Junction.” In the King Philip Middle School Drama Club, under the guidance of teachers/advisors Roland Moffitt and Jamie Osborne and KP High School Senior Lauren Duffy, students learn valuable lessons
about commitment, hard work, and dedication; not only learning their own parts, but exploring school subjects like science, math, grammar, through music.
The uniqueness that each student contributes to the show – from performing, singing, designing props, helping with scenery, working the lights, and the backstage crew – teaches many valuable lessons about what it means to work as a team. These lessons can be translated into life-enhancing experiences.
