Deanna Bea (Ficksman) Batstone, 66
Deanna Bea (Ficksman) Batstone, 66, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 9, 2010.
She was born February 25, 1943 in Winthrop, daughter of the late Charles and Alice Ficksman. She earned a teaching degree at Boston University and taught elementary school in various parts of the country before devoting
many years to raising her children.
She then earned an accounting certificate and spent the remainder of her career offering computer and medical software training, most recently with Hewlett Packard.
She lived in Sterling for the last 10 years, serving on several boards in the town.
Deanna enjoyed skiing, music, and participating in Toastmaster activities. She was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, rarely missing a game.
Having had pets her entire life, she was a dog lover, most recently of her dog Kiki, with whom she could often be seen at dog park gatherings or going out for ice cream. Her favorite times were those spent with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she spoiled endlessly. Deanna will be especially missed by her three children, Jessica McCusker, and her husband Tom, of New Milford, Connecticut, Meredith Lewis, and her husband Ben, of East Hampton, Connecticut, and Seth Batstone of New Bedford; fivegrandchildren, Riley, Owen, Erin, and Jamison McCusker and Jace Lewis; her former husband, David Batstone of Norfolk; and her sister, Ruth Dolby of Canton.
A wake and memorial service was held Friday, February 12 at Britton-Wallace Funeral Home in Auburn. A private burial is to be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay, 139 Main Street, Cambridge, Mass. 02142.
