Seatbelt Scofflaw Lands In Pokey
A passenger in a car stopped by police who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt got himself arrested on two outstanding warrants, police said. The 33-year-old Wrentham man was sitting in the passenger seat when Norfolk police stopped the driver on Route 1A for speeding.
Because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, it gave police legal justification for asking him to produce identification.A check found that the man was wanted for two warrants from 2008, one for possession of a Class A substance (heroin) and one for intimidation of a witness. The stop occurred about 9:19 p.m. Saturday, February 13, during a long weekend, and when the man couldn’t make the $1,000 cash bail, he had to stay in a cell at the Norfolk Police Department until being taken to Wrentham District Court on Tuesday, said Norfolk Police Lieutenant Jon Carroll.
The driver was let off with a verbal warning.
