Selectmen Mulling Local-Option Meals Tax For Norfolk
     Selectmen are considering asking Town Meeting to implement a local-option meals tax on restaurants in Norfolk, which would bring the total tax up to 7 percent. The tax would bring in an estimated $60,000 a year to the cash-strapped town government. But a local restaurant owner said this week he’s wor­ried about the effect increased taxes are having on wait staff.

Police: Driver In King Street Collision Was Drunk
     A 56-year-old Norfolk man caused a head-on collision on King Street last week because he was driving on the wrong side of the road, police said. The man blew a .16 blood alcohol content on the Breathalyzer, said Norfolk Police Lieutenant Jon Carroll. That’s about twice the legal limit for driving.

Police: Valentine’s Day Dispute Turns Into Road Rage
     A 58-year-old Norfolk man who got into a late-night argument with woman at a bar followed her when she left and later cut her off on Union Street this past weekend, police said.

     A driver “who appeared extremely confused” was charged with drunken driving after police found him sit­ting in his car with its lights off in the middle of Arnold Road earlier this month, police said.

Seatbelt Scofflaw Lands In Pokey
     A passenger in a car stopped by police who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt got himself arrested on two outstand­ing warrants, police said. The 33-year-old Wrentham man was sitting in the passenger seat when Norfolk police stopped the driver on Route 1A for speeding.

Police: Man Charged In Attack On Dog
     Police have filed charges against a 42-year-old Norfolk man who they say attacked a 20-month-old boxer dog on Creek Drive this past Tuesday morn­ing. Police got a call around 9 a.m. Tuesday “that there was a dog being attacked and beaten in the area of Creek Drive and Seekonk Street,” police said in a written statement.

Welding Shop Broken Into
      Someone broke into a weld­ing shop on North Street earlier this month and stole cable cut­ters as well as copper cable from welding machines worth about $2,000, police said. A back window was broken at Scott’s Welding Shop, which is located near where Union Street meets North Street, said Norfolk Police Lieutenant Jon Carroll. Police got the report Friday, February 5.

Dog Licenses Deadline Thursday, February 25
     Norfolk residents who own a dog that is at least 6 months old risk a $50 fineif they don’t get a dog license from the Town Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Thursday, February 25.

New School Access Road On Shelf, For Now
      Selectmen are unlikely to pur­sue building an access road from Rockwood Road to the grounds of Freeman-Centennial School at Town Meeting this spring.
