Saturday, February 20 6 p.m. The King Philip Indoor Percussion and Winter Color Guard plan to present a preview show in anticipation of competitions coming
up in 2010. Admission is free. The event is scheduled to take place in the gymnasium of King Philip Regional High School at 201 Franklin Street (Route 140) in Wrentham.
Monday, February 22 George Washington’s Birthday [actual; not a government holiday] February vacation ends for public schools in Massachusetts.
Wednesday, February 24 3:30 to 4:15 pm Readers in grades 5 and up and invited to discuss Revenge of the Whale by Nathaniel Philbrick at Norfolk Public Library. Snacks are to be served. Participants are encouraged to come prepared to discuss the book. 6:30 p.m. The 1956 classic movie Moby Dick is scheduled to be shown at Norfolk Public Library. The movie, based on the 1851 novel by Herman Melville about a ship captain’s obsessive hunt for a white sperm whale, stars Gregory Peck and Richard Basehart. Popcorn
is to be served. The movie is not rated; suggested ages are 10 and older. This event was rescheduled to Wednesday, February 24 after the snowstorm of Wednesday, February 17. 7 p.m. The first History on the Hill event of 2010 is to describe the events of 1870 that led to the incorporation of the town of Norfolk plus a narrated slideshow of the celebration of the town’s centennial in 1970. Norfolk’s 140th birthday is Tuesday, February 23, 2010. The event is sponsored by the Norfolk Historical Commission. The snowdate of the presentation is Wednesday, March 3.
Thursday, February 25 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Readers in grades 2 through 5 are invited to discuss Classic Starts: Moby-Dick by Herman Melville at Norfolk Public Library, part of the library’s month-long Norfolk Reads program. Snacks are to be served. Participants are asked to come prepared to discuss the book. 7 p.m. Chris Cormier-Hayes of Mansfield plans to lead the final discussion of In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex (2001) by Nathaniel Philbrick at Norfolk Public Library. She is an adjunct professor at Simmons College where she teaches English and writing classes. The town library is sponsoring Norfolk Reads, a month-long community event centering on a single book.
Friday, February 26 7 to 9 p.m. The fourth annual Family Bingo Night is scheduled to take place at Freeman-Centennial School at 70 Boardman Street in Norfolk. Many prizes are to be available for each round of Bingo. Tickets are $5. Doors are to open at 6:30 p.m.; snow date is Friday, March 5. The event is a fund raiser for Norfolk Teacher Parent Association.
Saturday, February 27
6 p.m. The third annual Chili Fest is scheduled to take place in the basement of St. Jude Church at 86 Main Street in Norfolk. The event is sponsored by the Norfolk Lions Club, along with the Franklin Lions Club. Six restaurants are planning to take part. Admission is $14 for adults, $7 for children 6 and up, free for children 5 and under. Proceeds are to go to Norfolk Food Pantry and Franklin Food Pantry. Tickets are also scheduled to be on sale 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 18 at Norfolk Public Library.Friday, March 5 6 to 10 p.m.
All King Philip Regional High School students are invited to Movie Night for a double feature in the high school cafeteria. Up, a Disney-Pixar comedy adventure, is scheduled
to be shown at 6 p.m., to be followed at 7:45 p.m. by Star Trek, a 2009 science fiction action movie starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Students are invited to attend either or both movies. Pizza, popcorn, and beverages are to be served. Tickets are $1 (to offset food costs), and must be purchased in advance. Students can purchase tickets during lunch blocks in the high school cafeteria on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Monday, February 1 and Friday, March 5. Tuesday, April 13 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The primary election for the vacant Norfolk, Bristol, and Middlesex state Senate district is scheduled to take place at H. Olive Day School at 232 Main Street in Norfolk. The election is to fillthe vacancy left by former state senator Scott Brown’s resignation to become a United States senator. The district
includes the town of Norfolk, as well as Wrentham, Plainville, Millis, Sherborn, Needham, North Attleborough, and portions of Franklin, Wellesley, Natick, and Attleboro.

The general election for the vacant Norfolk, Bristol, and Middlesex state Senate district is also scheduled to take place at the same time.
Tuesday, May 18 Norfolk Annual Town Meeting is scheduled to take begin at King Philip Middle School at 18 King Street in Norfolk. The date is a week later than usual.
