Winter Weather Keeps Norfolk Police & Firefighters Busy

Tuesday, February 16th kept police and firefighters busy handling a majority of emer­gency calls which resulted from a day long snow fall. Firefighters responded to 16 emergencies between 2 a.m. and 4 p.m., predominately us­ing shift staff in an effort to stay within a tight budget. Photos Courtesy Norfolk Fire Department did transport injured persons twice to Caritas/Norwood Hospital, both incidents for­tunately saw relatively minor injuries.

A run down of the activity is as follows:

1:22 am Canterbury Lane, CO detector activated, apparent malfunction, no CO readings found. Engine 2 and Chief Bushnell responded

Kelley, inves­tigated with Police. No injuries involved, both ve­hicles were towed.

9:22 am Fruit Street, car off the road, Squad 1, Capt. Petruchik responded (shift officerfor all subsequent calls), stood by while vehicle was towed to road with Police. 11:09 am Boardman Street, water main broke, street closed by Police and DPW. Engine 2 stood by for hazards. 11:56am Mutual Aid to Wrentham, Franklin Street, Rescue 2 responded for paramedic assistance.

12:20am Meetinghouse Lane, CO detector activat­ed, apparent low battery changed by Engine 2 staff. 1:18pm Rockwood Road, car into utility pole. Engine 1 and Rescue 2 responded with Po­lice. No injuries. 1:21pm Seekonk & Cleveland, multiple vehicle accident. Engine 1 and Rescue 2 responded with Police. Two vehicles towed, Engine 1 applied speedi-dry to spilled fluids. 2:09pm Seekonk Street near MedfieldLine, car into a utility pole. Engine 1 and Rescue 2 responded with Police. No injuries. 2:11pm Dedhan Street near MCI-Cedar Junction, multiple car accident. Chief Bushnell responded with Rescue 2 and Police, who assisted Walpole Fire/Police on scene. Walpole rescue transported one injured person to Caritas/Norwood Hospital.

2:25pm Main Street near Needham, car off the road. Engine 1 responded with Police as­sisted tow operator remove vehicle from woods. 2:56pm North and Needham, reported accident. Engine 1 and Police arrived finding ve­hicle had left the scene. 3:38pm Mutual Aid to Millis, Pleasant Street, motor vehicle accident. Rescue 2 transport­ed one injured person to Caritas/Norwood Hospi­tal.

3:30pm Dedham Street, 3 car motor ve­hicle accident. Engine 1 responded with Police, no injuries.

4:28pm Rockwood Road, motor vehicle accident, Engine 1 responded with Police, no inju­ries.

4:48pm Union Street, vehicle into a tree. En­gine 1 and Rescue 2 responded with Police. One pa­tient transported by Rescue 2 to Caritas/Norwood Hospital.
