A Controlling Interest (student directed production)

KP Drama and the Grady Auditorium Production Staff are proud to announce that a student directed production, A Controlling Interest, will be presented in competition as part of the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Annual Drama Festival. Trey Walsh & Ned Fitzgerald (seniors) are directing this one-act modern British tragedy, which will be performed

during the preliminary competition round at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 27th, at Joseph Case High School in Swansea, Massachusetts.

The play is the story of a disturbed, very controlling female student who develops a very challenging relationship with a young professional man. It is a cautionary tale of a relationship gone horribly awry with devastating consequences for all involved.

Kayla Johnson, Allison Martel, and Cody Sullivan (seniors) and Michael Macomber (sophomore) star in the show. Alecia Colella (junior) is the stage manager, and Kaitlin Bannon and Ryan Bakinowski (sophomores) designed the lighting and sound for the show, respectively. Drama Director Mrs. Rivka Rocchio (English/Language Arts Department) serves as the drama advisor and GAPS Director Joseph Ferreira (History & Social Sciences Department) serves as the technical advisor for the production. The KP community is encouraged to show their support for the first-ever effort by KP drama to compete in the state’s prestigious drama festival by coming to see the show and to see the performances of some of the schools competing against KP in this preliminary round, including Franklin High School’s drama program. Tickets for the entire day’s performances (eight schools) are just $10.00 and go to support the drama festival’s work state wide. We hope to see many people turn out for this effort by our truly gifted and talented theatre students.

TRACK UPDATE Christopher Allen (sophomore) won the two mile at the Auerbach Freshmen/Sophomore Meet with a time of 9:46. He broke the meet record, and he lapped 15 of 18 competitors. Our throwers swept Mansfield for the first time in years at the North Attleboro/Mansfield/King Philip League Meet. Our boys Sprint Medley finished 3rd out of 62 teams at the Kalperis Relays last weekend at Reggie Lewis Center. Boys and girls swept the Stoughton/Foxboro Meet highlighted by a “come from behind” win in the girls 4 X 4 relay in which Hillary Bushway (senior) made up a difference of one full lap. Both Josh Raia (senior) and Christopher Cacciola (junior) had solid seasons respectively in the 600 and the 50. Both either placed in the final or won it. Josh was especially dominant in the 600, and he is one the best mid-distance runners in Eastern Massachusetts. As it stands, we should have roughly 10-12 individuals competing at states. This is due to the hard work of our kids and our coaching staff who do a great job.
