February vacation begins for public schools in Mas­sachusetts.

Saturday, February 13 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Red Cross Blood Drive is scheduled to take place at St. Jude Church at 86 Main Street in Norfolk to re­plenish

blood supplies that are running low. To make an appointment, call 1-800-733-2767, go online to www.RedCrossBlood.org, or call Julie Dooley at 508-520-3303. 10:15 a.m. Century 21 Commonwealth Medfield is sponsoring a seminar series providing information on tax credits for first-time homebuyers and current homeown­ers.

Speakers include a tax accountant, a real estate lawyer, and a mortgage expert. The seminars are to take place at the real estate agency’s office at 266 Main Street (Route 109) in Medfield.The remaining buyer/seller seminar is scheduled 6:45 p.m. Thurs­day, March 4. The first-time home buyer seminar is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Saturday, February 13. noon The Norfolk Democratic Town Committee plans to hold a caucus at Norfolk Public Library to elect del­egates to the State Democratic Convention. All resi­dents of Norfolk who are registered Democrats are encouraged to attend and vote. Those interested in becoming delegates must be present to be elected. The 2010 Massachusetts Democratic Convention is scheduled for Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5 at the DCU Center in Worcester.

Washington’s Birthday [observed] [state and federal holiday]

7 p.m. Mary Connaughton, a Republican candidate for State Auditor and a former member of the board of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, is scheduled to speak before the Norfolk Republican Town Commit­tee at Norfolk Public Library.

Tuesday, February 16 1 to 2 p.m. Children in grades 4 and up are invited to “Learn To Spin a Yarn” at Norfolk Public Library. Participants can try to spin their own yarn from sheep’s wool us­ing

a drop spindle and washed fleece from a local farm. The event is sponsored by Sunday Spinners. It is limited to 20 participants. To register, sign up at the library, call the youth librarian at 508-528-3380 extension 5, or send an email message to aingala@virtualnorfolk.org. 7 p.m. The 1956 classic movie Moby Dick is scheduled to be shown at Norfolk Public Library. The movie, based on the 1851 novel by Herman Melville about a ship cap­tain’s obsessive hunt for a white sperm whale, stars Gregory Peck and Richard Basehart. Popcorn is to be served.

Thursday, February 18

1 p.m. Experts from Mystic Seaport plan to present infor­mation and artifacts illuminating the life of a whaler at Norfolk Public Library in “Whales, Whaleships & Whalers.” Children can use the tools of the whaler and learn stories about whaling. Artifacts include a harpoon and samples of baleen. Registration is re­quired. To register, visit the library or call youth li­brarian Andrea Ingala at 508-528-3380 extension 5.

6:30 p.m. A Bingo fund-raiser and Tupperware party to benefit disaster relief in Haiti is scheduled to take place at The Party Box at 139 Mechanic Street (Route 140) in Bellingham. Participants are to receive a free Bingo card just for attending. Those attending can also earn free Tupperware products. Raffle tickets are to be on sale throughout the evening. The event is open to adults only, who are advised to BYOB. A minimum of 15 people is needed to hold the event. Saturday, February 20 6 p.m. The King Philip Indoor Percussion and Winter Color Guard plan to present a preview show in anticipation of competitions coming up in 2010. Admission is free. The event is scheduled to take place in the gymnasium of King Philip Regional High School at 201 Franklin Street (Route 140) in Wrentham.

Wednesday, February 24

7 p.m. The first History on the Hill event of 2010 is to de­scribe the events of 1870 that led to the incorpora­tion of the town of Norfolk plus a narrated slideshow of the celebration of the town’s centennial in 1970. Norfolk’s 140th birthday is Tuesday, February 23, 2010. The event is sponsored by the Norfolk Histori­cal Commission. The snowdate of the presentation is Wednesday, March 3.

Friday, February 26 7 to 9 p.m. The fourth annual Family Bingo Night is scheduled to take place at Freeman-Centennial School at 70 Board­man

Street in Norfolk. Many prizes are to be available for each round of Bingo. Tickets are $5. Doors are to open at 6:30 p.m.; snow date is Friday, March 5. The event is a fund raiser for Norfolk Teacher Parent As­sociation.

Saturday, February 27 6 p.m. The third annual Chili Fest is scheduled to take place in the basement of St. Jude Church at 86 Main Street in Norfolk. The event is sponsored by the Norfolk Li­ons Club, along with the Franklin Lions Club. Six res­taurants are planning to take part. Admission is $14 for adults, $7 for children 6 and up, free for children 5 and under. Proceeds are to go to Norfolk Food Pantry and Franklin Food Pantry. Tickets are also scheduled to be on sale 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 18 at Norfolk Public Library.

Friday, March 5 6 to 10 p.m. All King Philip Regional High School students are invited to Movie Night for a double feature in the high school cafeteria. Up, a Disney-Pixar comedy adventure, is scheduled to be shown at 6 p.m., to be followed at 7:45 p.m. by Star Trek, a 2009 science fiction action movie starring Chris Pine and Zach­ary

Quinto. Students are invited to attend either or both movies. Pizza, popcorn, and beverages are to be served. Tickets are $1 (to offset food costs), and must be purchased in advance. Students can purchase tick­ets during lunch blocks in the high school cafeteria on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Monday, Febru­ary 1 and Friday, March 5. The event is sponsored by King Philip Parents’ Network. King Philip Regional High School is at 201 Franklin Street (Route 140) in Wrentham.

Tuesday, April 13 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The primary election for the vacant Norfolk, Bristol, and Middlesex state Senate district is scheduled to take place at H. Olive Day School at 232 Main Street in Norfolk. The election is to fillthe vacancy left by former state senator Scott Brown’s resignation to be­come

a United States senator. The district includes the town of Norfolk, as well as Wrentham, Plainville, Millis, Sherborn, Needham, North Attleborough, and portions of Franklin, Wellesley, Natick, and Attle­boro.
