Richard P. Wood, 83
Richard P. Wood, 83, of Alice Avenue in Norfolk died on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood.
He was a longtime Norfolk resident.
He was born August 13, 1926 in Cambridge, the dear son of the late Arthur and Alice (Dillingham) Wood. He was a graduate of Newton North High School. He worked for more than 35 years at the former Crosby Valve Company in Wrentham. At the time of his retirement, he was working as the company’s order editor. He served as a life deacon the youth adviser of Federated Church of Norfolk.
Richard was civic-minded and enjoyed going to the Norfolk Senior Center, and he was involved with Meals on Wheels and Hessco. He was known to be a staunch Republican. He was the loving husband of the late Carmella LeVitt (D’Angelo) Wood and was the former husband of Dorothy (Carlstrom) Wood of Scituate. He was the loving father of Russell Wood of Norfolk and Nancy Gill of Scituate, and of Carmella’s dear children Donella, Charlene, and Charles, and he was the devoted grandfather of Kevin and Emily Gill. He was brother of Lawrence Wood of Townsend, and the late Howard and Kenneth Wood. Funeral arrangements are being handled by R.J. Ross Funeral Home in Wrentham. A memorial service is to be held at a later date; there are no services planned at this time. Donations in his memory may be made to the Federated Church of Norfolk, 1 Union Street, Norfolk, Mass. 02056; to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington DC 20090; or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Richard Ross and the R.J. Ross Funeral Home, Wrentham Center.
