King Philip Regional High School News
SCHOOL COMMITTEE
On January 25, the King Philip Regional School Committee would like to invite the community members from the towns of Norfolk, Plainville, and Wrentham to a social “Meet the School Committee.” Please plan to attend at 6:30 P.M. prior to the regular School Committee meeting which will begin at 7:00 P.M. This occasion will take place in the King Philip Regional High School Library. Members of the 2009-2010 King Philip Regional School Committee are: Maureen Howard, Chairperson from Norfolk Margaret Billian, Vice-Chairperson from Wrentham Linda Andrews, Robert Chipman, Kim Carr, Wendy Wagner Robeson, Patrick Francomano, Matthew Gray, Charlene McEntee.
ATTENTION STUDENTS! The KP school council is searching for a student volunteer to plan and raise funds to create a King Philip Regional High School Wall of Honor. The purpose would be to recognize past, present, and future valedictorians and salutatorians. The project would require research, creativity, and potentially, fundraising or grant writing. This would be an excellent opportunity for a girl scout seeking her Gold Award or an Eagle Scout project. If you are interested, please contact Ms. Proulx at proulxj@kingphilip.org
PEER DIVERSITY TRAINING On January 25th, 27th, and 29th we will be offering peer diversity training for interested
students. In collaboration with the Anti-Defamation League of Boston, Mrs. J. Gallagher will be providing work-shops throughout the three days. We hope to train approximately 30 students. Student selection and participation will be on a first come first serve basis. If interested or if you would like further information, please see or e-mail Mrs. Gallagher at gallagherj@kingphilip.org. Our new student trainers will also have the opportunity to attend the “Power of One” workshop in March in Boston.

Hillary Bushway Signs National Letter of Intent The University of Louisville (Cardinals) lacrosse team has signed ten players to National Letters of Intent in the fall signing period. Nikki Boltja of Medina, Ohio; Hillary Bushway of Norfolk, Massachusetts; Kelsey Garraty of Ridley Park, Pennsylvania; Leslee Hefner of Forest Hill, Maryland; Ashley Herbst of Pittsford, New York; Monica Negron of Bel Air, Maryland; Colleen
O’Malley of Malvern, Pennsylvania; Amy Poteet of Whiteford, Maryland; Jamie Redding of Victor, New York; and Tory Wilkinson of Atherton, California.
“This is the most talented class of lacrosse players I have ever recruited to a Division I program. I am thrilled they have each chosen to join the Cardinal family and look forward to guiding their success on and of the field at Louisville,” said University of Louisville head coach Kellie Young. Bushway, an attacker from Norfolk, played club lacrosse with Mass Elite. She is a three year starter for King Philip Regional High School as well as a Boston Globe and Sun Chronicle All-Star to go along with her Hockomock League All-Star. Hillary played for Lower New England in a national
tournament and is a three sport captain at King Philip Regional High School. She is the girls’ record holder at King Philip in the 400m run and was a Bay State games gold medalist.
Coach Kellie Young on Hillary Bushway: “A midfielder, Hillary may be fast and agile, but she is also a bundle of light and positivity. She brightens any room she enters
which may also be why people are so surprised by her intensity on the field. A team player and a workhorse, she promises to have a fantastic lacrosse career at Louisville.”

ANNUAL SENIOR HOLIDAY PARTY Each winter, the senior class at King Philip Regional High School partakes in the Annual Senior Holiday Party sponsored by the Student Council. Members of the senior class are paired with students from a less-privileged elementary school. This year, King Philip hosted first grade students from the George School in Brockton. The children were invited to spend a fun-filled day with the upperclassmen complete with games, gifts, and holiday spirit.
In the past the Student Council supplied the transportation and lunches for the students at this charitable event, but without your help, none of this could have been possible! All donations were greatly appreciated. Thank you for making this holiday season just a little bit brighter for a child! KP thanks you for your generosity.

PEER LEADERSHIP For the month of November Peer Leadership was very busy! Their agenda included promoting the Great American Smokeout on the 19th with posters that congratulated our mostly nonsmoking community, stickers that students wore to represent their support, and a special addition of Wake Up Warriors. Also, the first class of sixth grade pen pals was piloted in the Norfolk Freeman Centennial School. High school peer leaders wrote introductory letters to assigned sixth grade students to encourage open communication between the two buildings. Wrentham pen pals have begun between Mrs. Fownes’ class at the elementary school and our members. The plan is to expand the pen pal program to include the Plainville elementary schools.
In addition to community service, the middle school D.A.R.E. program was kicked off in November, and the peer leaders hoped to participate in the next presentations. Lastly, the executive board has been very preoccupied with planning a fundraiser
so the club has means for all its planned activities. Our fund-raising will will run through February 5 with sales at lunch.
