Richard C. Sherman, 70 Richard C. Sherman, 70, of Plainville died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at home. He was born March 2, 1939 in Boston, son of the late Frank and Alice (Bouchard) Sherman. Dick grew up in Needham. He was educated in Needham public schools and graduated from Needham High School in 1957. While in high school he excelled in sports, and in his senior year he was co-captain of the Needham High School football team. Following high school he continued his education by attending Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University. Mr. Sherman was the retired owner of the Plainville Mobil Mart, a business he operated for 15 years before retiring in 2003. He was also the former president of S&S Courier Service in Norfolk. He had also worked for Sylvania Electric in Fall River, where he served as a plant manager. A resident of Plainville for the past two years, he had previously lived in Mansfield for 34 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. Dick was a true sports enthusiast his whole life. He loved New England sports teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots being his favorites, and he had a passion for golf. He shared his love of baseball with children by serving as a Little League coach. Mr. Sherman was a role model to his children. He loved the many special times spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dick’s family will always remember with fondness the many wonderful family vacations in Florida, and especially visits to Disney World. He was the beloved husband of Susan A. (Reinhardt) Sherman, whom he married on September 28, 1957. He is also survived by his devoted children: Kathleen S. Davis, and her husband Maynar, of Wesley Chapel, Florida; Mary A. Markopoulos, and her husband George, of Plainville; Mark E. Sherman, and his wife Silvia, of Westminster; Jeffrey M. Sherman of Plainville; Scott M. Sherman, and his wife Julie, of Plainville. He was also the father of the late Thomas R. Sherman, who died May 19, 2001. He was the brother of Frank Sherman of Mansfield, Evelyn Marley of Walpole, David Sherman of Bellingham, Diane Foley of Needham, and Karen Driscoll of Centerville. He was the loving grandfather of Matthew, Patrick, Amy, Christine, Sara, Adam, Megan, Austin, Wesley, Lillian, Erich, and Emily. Mr. Sherman is also survived by his cherished six great-grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Molly. A wake is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 8 at Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. A funeral is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, January 9 at 55 North Main Street in Mansfield, to be followed by a 9 a.m. Mass at St. Mary’s Church at 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) in Mansfield. Burial is at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Pratt Street (Route 106) in Mansfield..
