Saturday, January 9 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Mirliss family of Norfolk is organizing the 6th Annual Gary Mirliss Memorial Blood & Bone Marrow Drive at King Philip Middle School at 18 King Street in Norfolk. Organizers are hoping to get 100 people to donate blood and sign up for the National Bone Marrow Registry. Tuesday, January 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. The interfaith organization Foxboro Christian Women plans to hold a luncheon at the Lafayette House restaurant at the corner of Route 1 and Pine Street in Foxborough. Pam Cobb from Medway plans to share tips and suggestions to help keep New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier. Bonnie Rodrigues, a soprano from Bellingham, plans to sing. Karen Low, a Franklin writer, speaker, and teacher, plans to present “Living Hope.” Cost is $13, inclusive. Olive Day School at 232 Main Street in Norfolk. Thursday, January 14 7 p.m. Cathy Elder leads Great Decisions, a discussion group on current events at Norfolk Public Library. Sunday, January 17 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dr. Malik & Associates of Wellesley and Norfolk plans to offer a free workshop titled “Empty Nest Syndrome: An Invitation of the Soul,” aimed at mothers whose children have left home or are about to leave home. The workshop is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 17; Sunday, January 24; and Sunday, January 31 at Norfolk Public Library. Participants are asked to call the library at 508-528-3380 to register in advance and to bring paper and a pen. Monday, January 18 Martin Luther King Jr. Day [state and federal holiday] Tuesday, January 19 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Massachusetts special state election to fill a vacancy in the United States Senate is scheduled to take place. Candidates on the ballot are Republican nominee Scott Brown, a state senator from Wrentham; Democratic nominee Martha Coakley, the Massachusetts Attorney General; and independent Joseph Kennedy, a libertarian who is no relation to the former congressman of that name. Polls are scheduled to be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at H. Olive Day School at 232 Main Street in Norfolk. Monday, January 25 6:30 p.m. The King Philip School Committee is inviting residents from the three King Philip towns (Norfolk, Wrentham, and Plainville) to a social event titled “Meet the School Committee.” The social event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the library of King Philip Regional High School at 201 Franklin Street (Route 140) in Wrentham, shortly before the scheduled 7 p.m. committee meeting.
