Then and Now

Imagine a Little League baseball field in Norfolk with no Centennial School building behind home plate.

That’s what it looked like in the 1950s, as this photo from about 1957 shows. The photo is from the collection of Norfolk resident Glenn Olsen, who was playing Little League baseball in Norfolk at the time.

The more recent picture is from Opening Day of Norfolk Baseball on April 26, 2008. Note the Centennial School building in the background.

The current Freeman Building, built in 1950, was standing when both pictures were taken.

But both buildings have an appointment with the wrecking ball once the new elementary school is finished, which is scheduled to occur in mid-2012.
